For correctional healthcare cases that are not in active litigation, our v-MD service gives you access to a "virtual Medical Director" who can provide a general understanding of the incarcerated person's circumstances and help you decide whether a more extensive review is warranted.
The v-MD service involves a review of limited documentation by one of our physicians, followed by a conversation with you to see that your questions are answered. (Note that this review is not the same as a comprehensive physician consultation or expert witness review. As such, a written report and/or testimony are not included in a v-MD review.)
There are two levels of v-MD review:
The DMS v-MD Review gives you a plain-language second opinion on whether an incarcerated person is being unconstitutionally denied care—and whether you should consider pursuing litigation.
You'll contact us by filling out our form, calling our office, or sending an email request. We will need a brief case summary, the question you want us to answer, and the number of pages you want us to review.
If we believe that your request is suitable for a v-MD, we'll reach out to you with details on how to submit payment and upload your records.
You'll upload your records to our secure file transfer portal.
Once those are received, our physicians will review your case summary and records or other documents that you provide.
Once the review is complete, our staff will reach out to you to schedule the phone consultation.
Our physician will contact you at the number you provide.
