v-MD™ Early Case Screening

Limited-Scope Medical Review for Pre-Filing Case Evaluation

The v-MD™ Early Case Screening service provides early-stage medical case screening for correctional healthcare matters prior to active litigation. This paid service is designed to help counsel determine whether a case warrants further medical investigation or full expert witness engagement.

Purpose of the v-MD™ Service

The v-MD™ service is intended for case triage, not expert testimony. It is commonly used when:

  • Records are limited or incomplete.
  • Facts are still developing.
  • Counsel is evaluating whether medical issues justify litigation involvement.
  • A preliminary physician perspective would assist case decision-making.

The v-MD™ service helps counsel decide whether to proceed, not how to litigate.

What the v-MD™ Review Includes

A v-MD™ review involves:

  • Limited review of provided medical documentation
  • Focus on a single medical issue
  • Review performed by a correctional healthcare physician
  • A direct conversation to address counsel's questions
  • Plain-language explanation of medical considerations and potential next steps

This is a non-litigation medical screening, not a comprehensive expert analysis.

What the v-MD™ Review Does Not Include

To preserve clarity, appropriate scope, and professional boundaries, the v-MD™ service does not include:

Written expert report

Standard of care opinions for litigation

Legal conclusions

Affidavits or declarations

Depositions or testimony

If deeper analysis is warranted, a separate expert witness engagement can be discussed.

v-MD™ Review Levels

Level 1 v-MD™ Early Case Screening

Single medical issue | Up to 50 pages of records

$450

Level 2 v-MD™ Early Case Screening

Single medical issue | Up to 125 pages of records

$900

Scope and suitability are confirmed prior to review.

Relationship to Expert Witness Services

The v-MD™ service is not a substitute for expert witness review.

In some instances, the limited screening may confirm that no further review is warranted. In others, the screening may identify issues that require comprehensive expert analysis, a written report, and/or testimony.

When appropriate, counsel may elect to proceed with a formal expert witness engagement under a separate agreement.

Who the v-MD™ Service is For

The v-MD™ service is intended for:

  • Plaintiff attorneys evaluating potential correctional healthcare cases
  • Counsel determining whether to retain a medical expert
  • Legal teams seeking early medical context before filing

For matters involving active litigation, expert reports, or testimony, please see our Expert Witness Services page.

When v-MD™ is the Right Fit

The v-MD™ service is appropriate when counsel is seeking early medical insight to determine whether a correctional healthcare matter warrants further investigation or expert retention. It is most useful when the medical issues are unclear, records are limited, or the viability of a claim is still being assessed.

Request a v-MD™ Case Screening

If you are considering whether a correctional healthcare case warrants further medical review, we welcome inquiry.

Initial discussions focus on scope, records available, and timing.
